TGS, a global provider of energy data and intelligence, has announced a strategic partnership with 3E, a leading SaaS company that maximizes the performance of renewable energy assets with digital solutions and expert services, to integrate Virtual Met Mast time-series data into Wind AXIOM, thereby enhancing its micro-scale wind data capabilities.
Wind AXIOM will be the first platform to offer micro-scale wind data time series with 30m x 30m spatial resolution and 10-minute time granularity for up to 30 years as a result of this collaboration. This innovation will reduce uncertainty in Annual Energy Production (AEP) and engineering tolerance risk.
Wind AXIOM’s Virtual Met Mast Technology Will Be Used In A New Strategic Partnership Between TGS And 3E.
Virtual Met Mast (VMM) is a meteorological mast that accurately predicts wind resources at any location using up to 30 years of long-term micro-scale time series data of wind and meteorological parameters. It supports turbine suitability evaluations, extreme wind analysis, long-term extrapolation with observation data, and load modeling utilizing wind speed, direction, shear, veer, turbulence intensity, and stability data.
Users can immediately compare high-resolution VMM outputs with high-quality Numerical Weather Prediction (NWP) model outputs and observation data generated by Wind AXIOM. The 10-minute temporal resolution of the VMM, which spans 30 years and includes turbulence intensity, provides a comprehensive comprehension of wind resources, resulting in more accurate energy production estimates and quicker project design.
In auctions without direct measurements, his result is particularly useful.
Recent use of VMM to evaluate wind resources in the lease area of Sorlige Nordsjo II (2×1.5GW) revealed a greater wind speed difference than NWP models. This result is especially valuable in an auction setting where direct measurements are unavailable, as bidders can rapidly utilize VMM integrated into Wind AXIOM to improve design and optimize project proposals.
Jan Schoolmeesters, executive vice president of digital energy solutions at TGS, stated, “We are thrilled to partner with 3E to bring this innovative technology to our Wind AXIOM platform in order to further enhance the wind development insights available.” “This partnership represents a significant advancement in our ongoing effort to provide the offshore wind industry with the most innovative energy data and intelligence solutions. VMM will facilitate more precise simulations, resulting in improved decision-making for more cost-effective and efficient wind energy production.”
“Partnering with TGS is a significant step toward assisting the success of wind energy developers. By leveraging the inventive technology of Virtual Met Mast in TGS Wind AXIOM, we are enabling developers to analyze a greater number of sites, minimize missed opportunities, and optimize projections with unprecedented speed and precision,” stated 3E’s CEO, Stef Goossens.
Launched in 2022, Wind AXIOM is an innovative web-based analytics platform that assists wind developers in exploring high-value areas, preparing proposals, and developing leases. Wind AXIOM liberates wind development from spreadsheets and elevates it to a new level – an integrated data map – by providing simple access to vast amounts of data and sophisticated analytical tools.
