Apple’s Safari browser is now the second most popular desktop browser in the world, surpassing Microsoft Edge by a mere 0.87%.
Web analytics service Statcounter reports that as of March 2018, Apple’s Safari has 11.87 percent of the desktop browser market share, with Microsoft’s Edge browser in third place at 11 percent.
Microsoft Edge gained just 1% of the market share between 2022 and 2023, whereas Safari added 2%.
It’s no surprise that Google’s Chrome browser continues to dominate the market, with a staggering 66.13 percent share as of March 2018. Mozilla’s Firefox came in at number four with 5.66% market share, followed by Opera at 3.09% and the tenacious Internet Explorer at 0.55%.
Google Chrome is the most popular mobile web browser, used by 61.96 percent of all mobile devices. This is followed by Apple’s Safari (26.85 percent), Samsung’s mobile browser (4.8 percent), Opera Mobile (1.8 percent), UC Browser (1.7 percent), and Google Android’s built-in browser (0.8 percent).
Again, Chrome dominates on tablets, however its lead over Safari on tablets is narrower at 48.03% to 36.52%. The default Android browser has 13.11 percent tablet market share, whereas Opera has only 0.72 percent.
Microsoft Edge comes in at 0.42 percent, while Puffin is in last place at 0.29 percent.
Chrome continues to dominate across all platforms with 63.51 percent, followed by Safari with 20.43 percent, Edge with 4.96 percent, Mozilla Firefox with 2.77 percent, the Samsung mobile browser with 2.59 percent, and Opera with 2.35 percent.
